Seeking Innovation Pathways: Trusted Nature Data for Busines

Following the circulation of AZEI’s Post-Forum Summary from the CEO Forum: The Future of Carbon Credits in Indonesia, the  analysis on structural gaps in Indonesia’s carbon ecosystem—particularly  the role of trusted data and recognition—drew strong interest from the  academic community.

This engagement led to an official invitation for AZEI to participate as a key speaker in a joint Focus Group Discussion hosted by Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) and Universitas Bandar Lampung (UBL)—two leading academic institutions shaping Indonesia’s national discourse on science, data, and governance.

Represented by Tanjung Sentosa, Executive Chairman of AZEI, the FGD convened 50 participants in a focused, closed-door setting to examine how trusted nature data  can unlock credible business and climate opportunities. The discussion  also featured Ary Setijadi Prihatmanto, Head of the Defense and Security Technology Center (PUSTEKHAN) ITB, and was moderated by Tri Damayanti, PSAK–UBL.

The  session surfaced a clear national insight: Indonesia’s challenge lies  not in the lack of measurement tools, but in the absence of a recognition architecture—a  foundational system that formally identifies farmers, fishers, MSMEs,  cooperatives, and local institutions as legitimate actors within the  carbon economy. Without this layer, data remains unanchored, finance  cannot flow effectively, and participation becomes structurally constrained.

From the perspective of ITB and PUSTEKHAN, trusted nature data is not merely a technical or market concern, but a component of national resilience,  intersecting food security, institutional planning, and long-term  governance. The discussion concluded with clear alignment to advance  collaboration between ITB, UBL, and AZEI into the next phase of work.

This FGD reinforced AZEI’s position as a national platform connecting academic insight, policy relevance, and market architecture, and its growing recognition as a strategic partner in shaping Indonesia’s credible and inclusive carbon ecosystem.
